Circle Cow 7 contest, Servon, France
New year, first major contest. We were excited to escape the harsh winter and experience something new.. The OG Team (Adam Kun, Peter Sarlos, Marton Szilagyi and me, Andras Pentek) made the trip because we heard that the Circle Cow contest is one of the most laid back events in the world of flatland. We are sick and tired of visiting contests with lots of sponsors and shitty floor. Luckily, this Circle Cow thing was what we needed, because the organizers did take care of the riders, so nobody could complain about anything. Props to Ismael and Pascal for their hard work to make it happen!
We had the pleasure to stay at our friend, Armin Batoumeni and had a great time. There is no friendlier guy than Armin, and you can talk about everything with him, and even though he does not have to practice on a regular basis anymore, he is still one hell of a flatland rider. We are very thankful that we could spent these days at his place, and he drove us around for 5 days (cca. 700km)...
The contest place was really good, enough space and perfect floor. We co-sponsored the event and gave away some parts such as new Caramel handlebars, Vajda forks, T-shirts and Trick Stars 6 DVDs. We hope everyone liked them as much as we do...
It was good to see the French scene, there are lots of very talented riders. It reminds us a little of Hungary, because we also have hundreds of flatlanders, but less are riding brakeless. We hope that this year even more riders from all over the world come to visit our flatland contest and camp in Ajka, Hungary. It is pure fun and dirt cheap for sure.
Lots of international riders made the trip to Servon, but nobody from KGB showed up.. It was quite strange, because they usually attend every bigger comps..
Fresh on KHE, Alex Jumelin tried to get used to his wooden Equilibrium frame (no, he is not on OG), but of course, he was not so dialed as usual.. it takes a while since the HTA is different than on the KGB frames. But it was good to see some new and very stylish tricks from him.
The new tricks of Bram Verhallen also looked very nice, especially the karl kruzer to halfpacker turbine to half kickflip to forwards halfpacker.
Wolfgang Sauter also learned some new moves, and now he can pump no-handed timemachines..
The Best Trick contest took place on Saturday afternoon. We were very proud of Adam Kun, because he pulled all his three -stylish, brand new and original- Kunbinations.. he was the only one that managed to pull all of them. He got second place behind Alex after a tie break. Congratulations, Adam!
We went to see the city on saturday night. Since we had to put five people and five bikes into the Renault 19 of Armin, we decided to ask for a little help from our friend, Peter Szabolcsi who drove his car all the way from Hungary to attend the contest. He had lots of space inside his car, so we decided to leave two bikes (the ones of Peter Sarlos and Adam) in his ride to make thing easier.
They had a hotel room closer to Servon, so we just wanted to pick up the bikes on Sunday, just before the contest. We had a great time in Paris, and then we parted ways: Peter Sz. and his friend drove back to their hotel, the little OG team and Armin also needed to have a rest at Armins house.
But it all went wrong.. On Sunday afternoon we still could not find them at the contest place. Adam and Peter were rather nervous, they wanted to practice before the comp, but their bikes were absent.. And then Peter Szabolcsi informed us that his ride got hit by another car at some crossroads close to Servon. After this, the two guys in the other car kidnapped Peters friend, started messing around with a knife and stole his cell phone.. he managed to escape, luckily so he did not get hurt. Crazy story, indeed.
Since the police got involved, it was impossible to get the bikes of Adam and Peter back because they were still in the car.. We were extremely pissed due to this fact, but we could not do anything against this. Adam tried to ride my bike, but it felt a little different from his one. It was the same with Peter who tried to get used to Martons bike, but he decided to judge instead of competing. It is a pity because Adam and Peter had the potential to even win the contest if they could have performed a very good run... but they could not prove it due to this stupid story.
There was some very good riding in the Pro class: the Japanese guy performed some nice backwheel links and pumped crossfoot gerator glides, too.. Keelan Phillips had very clever and nice combos, and Matthias Dandois progressed really a lot, too. They both have very good future ahead of them..
Michael Sommer managed to do a rather clean run so he got first place, followed by Alex Jumelin, Wolfgang Sauter and Keelan Phillips.
With the help of Armin, we managed to get the bikes back, so we could film a little with the guys at the La Defense district, and visited the Opera spot for a little session. Adam promised that he would try to do his best at the Ninja Spin this May, we hope that no similar things will happen..
Thanks a lot for everything, props to the organizers and the riders, plus Armin and his family.. hope to meet you all soon.
