OG Balance3 flatland bikes: THE REVIEW
As you all know, it is difficult to buy complete flatland bikes at a good price. You either get too low quality for your money or you have to change some parts on your bike to make it rideable without problems. Most beginner bikes are heavy and ugly, too long or too crappy, with some weird angles and poor equipment. With the OG Balance3 bike we have tried to create something new. It is a bike with pro geometry frame, bars, forks and parts of outstanding value. We wanted to come out with a bike that does not weigh a ton, and easy to ride even for a beginner.
Most bike companies only care about street bikes. In their eyes flatland is not an important thing. To keep flatland alive, beginners need flatland bikes of proper quality. Since we are also flatlanders, we think one of our missions is to offer these bikes to the upcoming young generation of flatland riders.
The detailed information about the bikes:
-The frame is following the geometry of our very popular high end frame, the OG Gypo2. It has 74.5 headtube angle and curved downtube for more room.
-The frame features USA bottom bracket shell and lower wishbone tube connection for increased strength.
-The welding of the toptube-seattube-seatstays junction is pretty long to resist the abuse. This kind of welding combined with a pierced toptube is one of the strongest out there.
-The rear dropouts of the frame is lasercut and has horizontal slots for 3/8" axle. No matter if you make your rear end shorter or longer, the headtube angle remains unaffected.
-The handlebars of the Balance3 bike are designed for the bike by us. The bars are made entirely from 4130 CrMo, with 7.9" (200mm) rise. They have 3.5 degree up- and backsweep, low curved crossbar which is ideal for many tricks and a very knee-friendly design. The stem has a 35mm reach and the weight is pretty low.
-The headtube is CNC machined, uses normal 1 1/8" headset with hardened steel cups. The version with brakes has welded on rotor cable stoppers and uses SST ORYG detangler set.
-As for the drivetrain, the Balance is equipped with strong CrMo 165mm one-piece cranks that can resist abuse for a long time. The disc has 28 teeth and is made of steel. The pedals are the ever popular Wellgo plastic ones with very strong axles.
-We wanted to offer slimmer pegs and a perfect fork. The knurled pegs have 1.5" (38mm) diameter, they are very light but strong. The wall thickness is chosen properly so they will not get sharp too fast. The forks are alike the Odyssey flatland forks with zero offset, very small dropouts and flattened fork legs. They weigh only 2.5lbs (1.150g), have short brake mounts and welded-in star nuts. The unsealed alloy front hub has a 14mm axle which is strong enough for today's mainly front wheel riding.
-The brakes of the bike is manufactured by Chang Star. Pretty simple but effective, with soft and grippy brake pads.
-We used the famous Taska hub which allows us to keep the price down but offer a freecoaster that works pretty good if maintained properly. 3/8" axle, 48h.
-If you like plastic seats for flatland, this is the best you can get. The Viscount seat has 9mm CrMo rails and a nose that can be cut if you want to make it shorter. Pretty light and crazy strong. Will not look crappy after a few weeks like all the padded ones do...
-The tires are made by Cheng Shin. We use the narrow 1.75 ones because they are pretty light and fast. They can resist high pressure. Inflate them up to 100-120 PSI (7-8 bars). The rims are single walled alex rims with black anodizing. 36H up front, 48H in the rear.
The bikes are available in two different versions:
-with front brake only (340 Euro)
-with front and rear brakes (380 Euro).
Both versions are available in black, ochre yellow, light blue (pictured) and neon green colors. You can check the other colors in our webshop.
